Airport Profile
The airport's Current News page shows events of recent years and Airport Usage charts the significant growth. Exeter Airport has also experienced an interesting History since it was opened in 1937 and its part in the War Years is well documented.
Regional and City Airports (Exeter) Ltd (RCA) officially purchased Exeter International Airport from Devon County Council for £60 million on 5 January 2007 in a deal described as good news for the airport's future and the county economy. RCA brings both the investment expertise and infrastructure development skills of Balfour Beatty, the UK's leading engineering, construction company. The airport's Managament Team oversee the daily running of the airport to Civil Aviation Authority regulations and Department for Transport security regulations.
Future Development
The Department for Transport's White Paper, "The Future of Air Transport" has set out a strategic framework for the development of airport capacity in the United Kingdom and it states that Exeter, "has a distinctive role in serving the local catchment area and there is significant scope for development without major environmental impacts".
The airport's future development is in accordance with the DfT's Airport Master Plans Guidance - Regulatory Impact Assessment. The Masterplan provides a mechanism for explaining a future strategic framework and sets out proposals for major infrastructure development.
The Exeter Airport Master Plan details runway and terminal capacity constraints which include aircraft size, scheduling, environmental and safety issues. It is submitted for consultation during early 2008 and offers a wide range of stakeholders the opportunity to comment on the airport's future.
The local planning authority, East Devon District Council, will also oversee all future development and the airport will take into account the Environmental Issues.
Airport Usage
The airport has been one of the greatest for growth in passenger numbers in the UK during the past few years. In 2005 the growth of 36 per cent over the previous year eclipsed all other UK airports. The rise in usage is documented in the CAA UK Airport Statistics.
Regulatory Bodies
The Civil Aviation Authority together with Department for Transport set down guidelines for the operational procedures at the airport.
Airport Byelaws
Exeter and Devon Airport Limited in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 63 of the Airports Act 1986 and section 37 of the Criminal Justice Act 1982 and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, have in place Byelaws which shall apply within Exeter Airport.
Airport Surface Access
In accordance with the DfT directive, the airport hosts Airport Transport Forums to discuss Exeter International Airport's Airport Surface Access Strategy (ASAS) and works with the local authority, local planning and highway authorities, infrastructure providers, transport operators and other interested parties, to improve the surface access to the airport. The airport also assists with the funding of the bus service.

Consultative Group
Exeter International Airport's Consultative Group which meets regularly to discuss environmental and noise issues works to Department for Transport Guidelines for Airport Consultative Committees and has representatives from Local Parish, District and City Councils.
